CASUAL
WALKING
Casual
walking on Tahiti is a great thing to do if you can get to an area
where there's somewhere to go. Due to the fact that most of the coastal
land is privately owned, there are only a few good trails and stretches
of uninterrupted beach to just casually stroll along. If you're staying
at one of the larger hotels, you can enjoy walking around their grounds,
but your walk will be fairly short. So, with this in mind, your walking
options are:(coming soon)
WITHIN
PAPEETE:
You can certainly stroll around Papeete
easily enough, but you'll always be dealing with the traffic. The
best casual walk within Papeete's downtown is along the waterfront.
If you're feeling energetic, you can walk from the Sheraton hotel
all the way to the marine base at the east end of Papeete, roughly
1.5 miles, or you can just go downtown and wander in the direction
that strikes your fancy. If you keep the water in view, you can't
get lost.
ON
TAHITI & TAHITI ITI:
The farther you get from Papeete, the less
population and cars there are, thereby turning the main coastal road
into a nice place to walk. East or west, it doesn't matter. Just get
out of town.
BICYCLE
RIDING
What
a great way to see Tahiti! Healthy and fun, bicycle riding is a really
popular activity. Tahiti has a paved road encircling the entire island
that's just perfect for riding. The little peninsula of Tahiti Iti
is probably the better place to ride, due to less traffic, but a strong
rider can ride the entire island of Tahiti in a day. There are a few
places to rent bicycles on the island: listings coming soon...
